A strong and committed team. The schoolchildren work closely together to create high-quality, miniature Formula 1 racing cars, and bring perfection to the race track. The zeal and hard work of the four schoolchildren were most recently rewarded in June 2021, when Momentum won the second place in the senior category.

The project involves creating a 17 - 21 cm long mini-racer out of plastic, weighing at least 52 grammes and powered by gas cartridges. The vehicles compete along a 20 m race track. Not only is the vehicle’s speed assessed, but also a presentation and a team stand, as well as the team’s overall performance with respect to design, production, project management and marketing, based on a portfolio.

cirp GmbH offers the team the facility to produce the delicate front wing, guide lugs and spoilers for the gas cartridge-powered vehicles through the application of the additive manufacturing process selective laser sintering (SLS). The process uses a polyamide powder (PA2200), which is subjected to localised melting in layers using a laser beam. Parts produced using SLS are very light, elastic, durable, have similar mechanical properties to the series-produced parts and offer the pupils the greatest possible freedom with their design.

In doing so, the company supports the charitable corporation School Formula 1, whose aim is to use the fascination for and global presence of “big” formula 1 to create an exciting and educational experience for young people. The purpose of this is to promote understanding of and insight into the fields of product development, technology and science, and to highlight technology career paths.
